Polish Genealogical Society of America (PGSA) Will Be Having Their August 14, 2011 Meeting/Program at 2 PM at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library

Hi Everyone!

A special welcome to any local members of the Polish Genealogical Society of America (PGSA) who may want to consider attending this program on August 14, 2011 at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library.

You can vist the PGSA at www.pgsa.org to see material about the society as well as see their Calendar of Events that includes this program.

This is the first time EVER that the society will be having one of their meetings/programs away from the normal society “home” at the Social Hall of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America (PRCUA) at 984 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago, IL.  The Society “home” is located in Old Polonia in the vicinity of Ashland, Milwaukee and Division.

This is near the actual area where I grew up in Chicago so I have a personal sense of connection to the area!!

The library is located at:

500 N. Dunton Avenue, Arlington Heights, IL 60004

The program that will be presented on this day at this location starting at 2 PM is:

“How Libraries Can Help With Your Genealogy Research”

Michael Mulholland will speak and then give a tour of the genealogy collection in the library. The library opens at 12:00 noon and closes at 5:50pm.

Michael is the Local History/Genealogy Librarian at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. He has been doing genealogy for over 32 years. While living in Salt Lake City for 2 1/2 years, he did personal and freelance genealogy research. His research has taken him to the ethnic neighborhoods of Chicago, downstate Illinois, Wisconsin, California, Ireland, and Poland. He has presented programs for local and state genealogical societies, libraries, and various civic organizations.

Visit the Arlington Heights Memorial Library at www.ahml.info.

I am so glad the PGSA is trying this experiment by having their program in the Northwest Suburbs rather than having members or potential members that live in the suburbs drive into the heart of Chicago.  I am a member of the PGSA and found it difficult at times to drive over 35 miles to attend the programs in Chicago.  There may be a “convenience opportunity” by trialing this program in the suburbs to gauge how attendance is there rather than in Chicago.

This is really a “historic” occasion that has more meaning to PGSA members and possible members.

If you are a member of the PGSA or considering joining, then consider attending this program and be part of “history”!

Michael Mulholland will give a great tour of the library and make visitors aware of their resources and their specific Polish related genealogical resources.

Mark the date down on your calendar!
