“Resource Scavenger Hunt” Contest With Prizes Being Offered by the Illinois State Genealogical Society

Hi Everyone!

I recently received a publicity notice from Thomas MacEntee, Publicity Chair of the Illinois State Genealogical Society (ISGS).

It sounds like the ISGS is running a “Scavenger Hunt” within Illinois, looking for genealogical resources that would be placed in an ISGS Wiki entry that exists at FamilySearch.org .  Resource information would be contained in this Wiki for all counties of Illinois.

The contest runs from June 1, 2011 through June 30, 2011.  Prizes include a RootsTech 2012 conference registration and a one-year ISGS membership.

I have provided in this blog post after the plus sign separator lines the full verbiage of the e-mail in Italics I received from Thomas .  Please look at the details of what follows and consider providing some great Illinois resources, both in narrative form created by you as well as hyperlinks to web sites you are familiar with.

It is definitely beneficial to click on the links provided by Thomas within his e-mail to me so you get all of the details on the rules to participate as well as a link to the Wiki so you can see what is already there so you don’t duplicate submissions.

Even if you have no intention of participating, I think it would be good for you to at least visit and bookmark the Wiki site itself on Illinois information.  There already appears to be quite a lot of information on the site.  The Wiki itself resides as part of the FamilySearch website and the massive Wiki of information that is being created there.

Read what follows and consider becoming a “scavenger hunter” to add resource material you know about from your own genealogical research that relates to Illinois.

Don’t forget to just visit the ISGS website at www.ilgensoc.org just to see what they have to offer in general.

Please note the time frame for the contest.  It ends on June 30, 2011.
