Reminder Post: The Polish Genealogical Society Of America (PGSA) Will Be Having Their Quarterly Meeting/Program At Our Library On Sunday, November 11, 2012, At 2 PM; Our Library Is Co-Sponsoring The Program; Registration Is Needed

I wanted to remind all of you of the upcoming Polish Genealogical Society of America (PGSA) meeting/program that will take place at our library on this Sunday, November 11, 2012 starting at 2 PM.  Our library is co-sponsoring the event.

I previously made a post about this event on October 15, 2012 that contained all the information you need in order to register yourself for the program.

Now would be a good time to re-post this information.

Hi Everyone!

The Schaumburg Township District Library will be co-hosting the upcoming quarterly meeting of the Polish Genealogical Society of America (PGSA) that will take place on Sunday afternoon, November 11, 2012, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM in the combined Rasmussen North and South Rooms on the 2nd floor of our library.

Our library is located at 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg, IL.  The library building is located in the Town Square which is at the intersections of Roselle Road and Schaumburg Road.

Registration for the program is required. This can be done by visiting the library web site at:

Click on the “Events” tab at the top.

Then click on “All Programs” under the Central Library column.

Scroll through the calendar to select November.

Look for the November 11, 2012 date and click on the PGSA Program.

Enter in your First Name, Last Name and Phone Number (Required).

Your e-mail address is optional.  If you add it in you will receive an e-mail reminder from us a few days in advance of the program.

Click on the “Complete Registration” Button and you will be registered.

It’s that simple!

You can also register by calling our main library number at 847-985-4000 and ask that you want to be registered for a program.  Our staff will be able to register you if you are unable or unwilling to do the online registration process yourself.

The guest speaker at the PGSA meeting/program will be Jeff Bockman – genealogy lecturer and writer. His presentation is titled “Cemetery Records – Search High & Low, Above & Below”.

His presentation is expected to start between 2:15 to 2:30 PM after the PGSA conducts some society business.  The guest speaker’s program should last until approximately 3:30 PM to 4 PM.

He will provide information that will include finding cemeteries, cemetery records, funeral home records and will show photographs of unique tombstones and monuments.

Jeffrey Bockman is a Genealogy Lecturer & Writer. He was a contributing editor for the former Everton’s Genealogical Helper and a feature writer for the former Heritage Quest Magazine. His articles have also appeared in various other publications. He was the President of the DuPage County Genealogical Society for 5 terms. He is the author of Give Your Family A Gift That Money Can’t Buy, a book that encourages people to record and preserve their family’s history.

Refreshments will be provided.

The PGSA will also have genealogical research books of interest to Polish researchers for purchase at the program.

The program is open to all who have registered.  You do not have to be a library card holder of STDL to attend.  You do not have to be a member of PGSA to attend.  (If you are interested in becoming a member of PGSA, this is a great opportunity to see what a PGSA event is like and to meet and interact with those that are members.)

Our Next Genealogy Program Is Coming Up On Tuesday Evening November 13, 2012 At 7:30 PM

Hi Everyone!

I thought I would post this reminder of our next upcoming Genealogy Program at the Schaumburg Township District Library.

There is no pre-registration required in order to attend the program.  There is no fee charged to attend.  Anyone can attend this program.  You do not have to be a library card holder with the Schaumburg Township District Library in order to attend.

Here are the details of our upcoming program for Tuesday evening, November 13, 2012:

Maureen Brady

The Genealogy program will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 7:30 PM in the 2nd floor Classroom. The guest speaker for the evening will be Maureen Brady. Maureen will present a program titled “The “New” FamilySearch Website”.

The FamilySearch website was completely redesigned in December, 2010, with a new look and much more content, including indexes linked to the images of original documents and a library of instructional videos. This presentation will provide an overview of the new content, as well as search techniques and navigational tips and tricks .

Maureen Brady, a former school librarian and computer educator, has over twenty-five years experience with family history research and is now a professional genealogist. She has traced her own Scottish roots back to the end of the 17th century and beyond, and has also pursued Chicago area, the trans-Allegheny U.S., Irish and Swedish research. She is the co-director and trainer for the Crystal Lake (IL) Family History Center. She is a life member of the Aberdeen and North East Scotland Family History Society, the Chicago Genealogical Society and the Ohio Genealogy Society. She is also active in the British Interest Group of Wisconsin & Illinois, the Illinois St. Andrew Society’s Scottish Genealogical Group, the National Genealogical Society, the Lake County (Illinois) Genealogical Society and the Clan Donnachaidh Society, for which she serves as one of the U.S. clan genealogists.
                                                                                                                                                                                                          The doors to the room will open at approximately 7 PM so participants can pick up any handouts, review books and journals and interact with other participants. Tony Kierna, the STDL genealogist, will start the program at 7:30. Introductions of new participants will occur as well as a brief review of handouts and genealogical matters. It is expected that the guest speaker’s presentation will start at around 7:45-8:00 PM. We will end the session by 9:30 PM.
