Embedded RootsTech 2013 Video Interview Conducted By DearMYRTLE With David Pogue, Tech Guru From The New York Times

Hi Everyone!

tv-interviewI wanted to see how I can enhance some of my blog posts with more than just text.

This is a free blog from WordPress.  As such, I have to use whatever “tools” WordPress provides to “free” blogs.  One of the things I noticed they have as a capability is to “embed” videos from YouTube.  This means that a video will play directly within the blog post.  There will be no other visible link to click on and leave the blog post to see something else.

I thought I would give “embedding” a try with a small video from the just recently concluded RootsTech 2013 Conference.

DearMYRTLE, a renowned genealogist in her own right, was conducting some video interviews at the recent RootsTech 2013.  She has these small video interviews posted on her YouTube channel.  They were conducted with a myriad of attendees to the conference.

I did notice an interview she had with David Pogue, a well-known “tech” guru who writes for the New York Times.  David was also a keynote speaker at the conference and the “buzz” is that his keynote speech “hit it out of the park”.

Here is DearMYRTLE with David Pogue:

I hope you enjoyed seeing the video interview without having to leave my blog post.  More importantly, leave a comment for me regarding my embedding the video directly into the blog post!  I always want to learn new ways within WordPress and this is my most recent effort.

I would like to do more video “embeds” in the future.  I hope you enjoy the continuity of staying with the blog post.

Thanks for letting me experiment!

Our Next Genealogy Program Is Coming Up On Tuesday Evening April 9, 2013 At 7:30 PM

Hi Everyone!

I thought I would post this reminder of our next upcoming Genealogy Program at the Schaumburg Township District Library.

There is no pre-registration required in order to attend the program.  There is no fee charged to attend.  Anyone can attend this program.  You do not have to be a library card holder with the Schaumburg Township District Library in order to attend.

Here are the details of our upcoming program for Tuesday evening, April 9, 2013:

The Genealogy program will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 7:30 PM in the 2nd floor Classroom.  The guest speaker for the evening will be Teresa S. McMillin.  Teresa will present a program titled “Hunting for Henry: A Case Study: Sibling Research”.Henry Steren was a German immigrant who lived in Quincy, Illinois. The United States records that were created about him indicate only that he was from the Province of Hanover in Germany. This lecture will detail how his town of origin and parents were identified, in spite of the lack of records naming him. Carefully researching each of his associates and correlating all available evidence reveals the origins of Henry. Use of the Genealogical Proof Standard is demonstrated.

She is a multi-year attendee of the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research and the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy; and has taken college-level German courses. Teresa is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the National Genealogical Society, as well as many local genealogical societies. She is a co-president and webmaster of the Northwest Suburban Council of Genealogists in Mount Prospect, Illinois.

Teresa lives in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. She is happily married and has two junior-high-aged children: a boy and a girl.

The doors to the room will open at approximately 7 PM so participants can pick up any handouts, review books and journals and interact with other participants.  Tony Kierna, the STDL genealogist, will start the program at 7:30.  Introductions of new participants will occur as well as a brief review of handouts and genealogical matters.  It is expected that the guest speaker’s presentation will start at around 7:45-8:00 PM.  We will end the session by 9:30 PM.
