Schaumburg Township in Illinois Honors Military Veterans

Hi Everyone!

Our library’s Local History Librarian also made me aware of an ongoing program through Schaumburg Township in which they are honoring military veterans that live within Schaumburg Township.

While this information is not so much for pure genealogical research, I wanted to make everyone aware of this program, especially for the veterans themselves.  You can personally nominate yourself if you qualify according to the program requirements.  Or you may know a military veteran that lives in Schaumburg Township that you might want to nominate for military recognition.

The specifics of the program were sent to me as an e-mail.  The verbiage follows in Italics:

Veterans Honor Roll:

Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of want and freedom of fear! We want to thank all those who are or have served our Country so we may enjoy the freedoms of our great nation.

We honor our veterans at our regularly scheduled Board Meetings each month. If you know a veteran or you are a veteran and would like to be recognized for your service to our Country, please fill out an Application.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Served during a time of conflict
• Honorable discharge
• Reside within Schaumburg Township
• Township Application with DD-214 form.

All Applications must be submitted with a DD-214 form.
The Applications can be mailed or dropped off at:

 Schaumburg Township
C/o Veterans Honor Roll
1 Illinois Blvd.
Hoffman Estates, IL 60169-3314

All Applications will be accepted and reviewed. Applicants will be contacted by the Schaumburg Township Clerk’s Office.

You may request a copy of your DD-214  form by filling out form SF-180 Request for Military Records or visiting www.archives.gov.

Special thanks to The Finer Line, Inc. located at 1036 Plum Grove Road, Schaumburg, IL 60173-4546 for their generosity in providing quality plaques to our wonderful veterans. www.finerline.com

We know in genealogy the importance of using military records in our own research.  Too many times our ancestor with a military record has long passed this life and was unable to be honored by his descendants.  What better way to turn this around and honor our living military veterans while they are still here with us living within Schaumburg Township.

Consider honoring a veteran that lives in Schaumburg Township that may be too shy to submit himself for this recognition.

For those military veterans that attend our genealogy program, don’t be shy!  Submit your name for this honor.  You deserve it!  Think of the wonderful trail you will leave for your own descendants when they discover your great service to our country!
