Hi Everyone!
I just noticed this bit of information from an October 21, 2010 post on the Dick Eastman Genealogy Newsletter (www.eogn.com). Footnote.com, a popular subscribable genealogy database has been acquired by Ancestry.com, also a very popular and the largest subscribable genealogy online database product.
The merry-go-round of mergers and acquisitions in the world of genealogy subscribable database providers continues at full speed!
Our library subscribes to both of these products.
As of now it appears that Footnote.com will continue to be accessible as a standalone product but yet be under the control of Ancestry.com. This looks similar to the situation with RootsWeb.com, also under the control of Ancestry.com but yet accessible by itself without going through Ancestry.com.
Footnote.com has grown from 5 million online records to 70 million over the last four years since inception. There are also 1 million members accessing the data.
Only time will tell how the alignment of Footnote.com within Ancestry.com shakes out.
As of now there is no difference in accessing Footnote.com from within our library.
If things change in the future, I will let all of you know.
