I just received an e-mail from the Pointers-in-Person (PIP) Italian Genealogy Research Group that they will be meeting at our library on Saturday, March 12, 2011 from 10 AM to 1 PM.
The group is undergoing a change in leadership and is seeking participation from fellow Italian researchers to discuss what lies ahead in the future for the group.
Dan Niemiec, leader of the group for the last 10 years, is stepping down from the role. Dan is a wonderful leader and a great genealogy speaker who we have had at our library’s Genealogy Program on numerous occasions.
What follows in italics is the text from the message I received from the group about this upcoming meeting and what is trying to be accomplished at the March 12, 2011 meeting. Dan Niemiec has also included a message to fellow Italian genealogy researchers:
Please attend! PIP Chicago-North will be choosing new leadership and planning our future meetings.
Dan will be stepping down as Leader after this meeting.
PIP Chicago-North Meeting Notice: Saturday March 12th from 10am-1pm , Schaumburg Library in Rasmussen North meeting room.
note from Dan:
Fellow Italian Genealogists,
I have decided, after long and careful thought, to step down as chairman of the POINTers in Person Chicago-North chapter.
After ten years, it is time for someone else to bring new ideas, enthusiasm, and a fresh approach to the chapter.
I plan to stay involved, and I’ll be happy to speak to the chapter if the new leader is so inclined. There is a lot of work in planning the meetings, booking speakers and rooms, updating the web site, and coming up with new and interesting things to do. I do not feel I have done my best the past 2-3 years, so I hope that someone can step forward to take my place.
The March meeting will include an election of a new chapter chairperson.
Ideally we should have more than one officer. Specifically we should have a vice-chairperson (who can cover for the chair in case they can’t make it), and a recording secretary (who can take good notes and forward them to Dr. Tom Militello of POINT in a timely manner).
Between now and then, we need people to step forward to fill these roles and place their names in nomination.
If you believe you might be a good chairperson for the chapter, please send a short note to Terry Jackson at firstname.lastname@example.org and cc: me at email@example.com and explain why you would make a good chairperson and what you might plan to do if you became chairperson. We will forward that e-mail to everyone so they can think about it. At the March meeting, you will be given the chance to explain to the group why you would make a good chapter chair.
If you are NOT interested in holding office, please attend the meeting anyway so you can vote for the candidate of your choice.
Voting will be done by secret paper ballot, so nobody has to openly choose between two friends.
The term of office should be two years.
It is very important that people step forward for this. I do not want to see our chapter fade into obscurity because no one wants to take charge. I don’t think anyone wants that.
So, please let us know if you think you might want this challenge. If you want more information about what goes into being chapter chair, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can explain in detail.
I’m looking forward to PIP Chicago North going in a new and exciting direction!
Thanks in advance for your input and see you at the March meeting.
PIP Chicago-North Chairman
