Hi Everyone!
One of our library’s librarians made me aware of this nice blog post from “Sassy Jane” that provides the readers with many links to a large variety of different Chicago City Directories.
For anyone doing City of Chicago ancestral research, this is a site you will definitely want to save and bookmark. City Directories are valuable tools to reference in your genealogical research. They are generally printed and therefore should be readable! They pinpoint an ancestor in a very specific location at a very specific time! City Directories should also be used to discover so much more about a city that is contained with the pages of a directory over and above the name index that we all tend to only search.
The blog post from “Sassy Jane” has multiple references to different locations where these Chicago City Directories can be found.
Browse through the entirety of the blog post from “Sassy Jane” to see all of the directories that are available.
The site to visit is:

- 1875
- 1880

Thanks to Tom H. of our library who made me aware of this great resource to help those of you doing City of Chicago ancestral research.
Take a look at all of the links on the blog to the variety of different years of Chicago City Directories over and above what I indicated in the above list.

Hi “Sassy Jane”,
It was a pleasure making note of your blog and the great resources you have identified for online Chicago ancestral research in our library genealogy blog. Thank you for also leaving us with another link to a more comprehensive list of Chicago online genealogy resources from your own blog.
Many of our suburban researchers have connections to the city of Chicago as many of their ancestors may have started in Chicago but over time emigrated again to the suburbs surrounding the City of Chicago.
My own personal research is for my Polish ancestry having come to Chicago. I will keep looking at your site over time for resources that can help me also. Thanks again so much!
I hope my readers will also continue to revisit your site.
Thanks again for “discovering” my own site and leaving your comment.

Thanks again for the kind words. All of my relatives are from Chicago and their ancestors were from Prussia (now Poland), Austria, Norway, Sweden, and Scotland. I’ll have some more Chicago pages coming up. This link will connect to most of them, but also feel free to use the cloud tag on the right side and choose Chicago.
