We Have Resolved the Printing from Home Problem When Using GenealogyBank

Hi Everyone!

On August 24, 2011 I published a blog post indicating that we discovered a Printing problem when Schaumburg Township District Library cardholders were accessing GenealogyBank from home and were trying to print their results.  Users were always able to search the database and see the results on-screen but were unable to save the results as a PDF or print them to paper from home.

I am happy to report that the problem has been resolved!

To get to America’s GenealogyBank you simply go to our website at www.schaumburglibrary.org, select the link at the home page that says “Local History and Genealogy”, then scroll slightly down that page and look for “GenealogyBank” database access on the right side of the page under the “Research Databases”.  Click on that link, enter in your STDL card number and you will be taken to databases from NewsBank.  Look for “America’s GenealogyBank” within the list of NewsBank databases and you will be on your way to great research!

Once in the database you will be able to search the material AND will now be able to use the “Print” and “PDF” commands to print the data you found or save the data as a PDF file for your use.

Part of the fix involves the one additional “click” to select America’s GenealogyBank from the list of NewsBank databases.  That does not seem too onerous of a task as part of this resolution!

I want to thank Bruce C. for making us aware of the initial problem.  Thanks for your very observant eyes and willingness to report the problem back to us!

Thanks also to our great staff that worked with GenealogyBank to help us resolve this issue!

Take advantage of this newly acquired genealogy database our library now offers for home access to STDL cardholders.
