As I troll a variety of genealogy society websites local to our area in search of new calendar dates for programs, I did happen to notice that the DuPage County Genealogical Society has updated their Calendar of Events with some new “classes” that I had previously not seen.
The society will be offering a series of 4 genealogy “classes” that will take place at the Wheaton Public Library at two-week intervals starting on October 4, 2014. Classes will be held on Saturdays from 1 PM to 3 PM.
There is a $10 fee per “class”. Registration with the library is kindly requested for planning purposes and handout purposes but is not required.
The information at the society webpage does not indicate who the instructor(s) will be for the programs.
It also appears you can pick and choose any of the classes to attend and you do not have to attend all of them.
Here is the upcoming Fall schedule of the 4 classes:
- Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 1 PM to 3PM at the Wheaton Public Library. $10 Fee. “Get Ready To Climb Your Family Tree”
- Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 1 PM to 3PM at the Wheaton Public Library. $10 Fee. “File Organization”
- Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 1 PM to 3PM at the Wheaton Public Library. $10 Fee. “FamilySearch.org – The Ultimate Free, On-Line Genealogy Resource”
- Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 1 PM to 3PM at the Wheaton Public Library. $10 Fee. “Making Ancestry Work for You”
These “classes” look as if they are intended for the beginning genealogist. The fact that you can attend all 4 if you choose within about 6 weeks can provide the beginning researcher with a nice “Kick-Off” as they embark on their research activity. However, it sure looks like the topics can apply to just about any level of researcher. If the subject interests you and you consider yourself an established researcher, then by all means consider attending!
I am so glad I happened to come across this nice offering by the society with plenty of time to go for your planning purposes. If you think you are interested, please consider registering in advance so the providers can be sure they have enough handout material for those that actually participate.
You can actually take a look at the details of the above events by looking at the PDF “Flyer” of the upcoming programs at:
I have also added the events to my Google Calendar as part of this blog located at the top of the homepage as “Calendar of Local Genealogy Events”.
