The Swedish American Genealogical Society has a genealogy program on the 4th Saturday of each month from January to November at the Museum.  There is a program scheduled for Saturday September 23, 2017 from 10 am to 12 noon.  This program is titled “Swedish Immigration in Argentina and Brazil” and is presented by Jane Florine.

Here is the text from the program description contained in the Cirkular:

Swedish Immigration in Argentina and Brazil

“Presented by Jane Florine, ethnomusicologist who lived and worked in Argentina for many years.

In this talk, Jane Florine will discuss the Swedish immigration that took place to Brazil and Argentina in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Oberá, located in the northeast area of Argentina, was the largest Swedish colony in Latin America. To this day, Swedish culture – especially Scandinavian folk dance – is preserved in Oberá, the home of Argentina’s National Immigration Festival, along with an interest in Swedish genealogy.

Cost is free for Swedish American Genealogical Society members. Non-members pay $10 per presentation. Payment is accepted at the door. Reservations appreciated and can be made via email or by calling the Museum at 773.728.8111.”
