To Our Schaumburg Township District Library Cardholders; You Will Continue To Be Able To Access Ancestry Library Edition FROM HOME Until June 30, 2020; This Is Another Extension!; Our Provider Is Making Access To Home Users Due To Corona Virus Pandemic; THANK YOU ANCESTRY AND PROQUEST!

Hi Everyone!

Schaumburg Township District Library

Even during our temporary closing of the library due to the Corona Virus pandemic, I am still keeping in touch with library operations while at home.

Just heard that Ancestry Library Edition will continue to be available to Schaumburg Township District Library cardholders FROM HOME  THROUGH AT LEAST JUNE 30, 2020.

Temporary access for home users is being granted by Ancestry.com to ProQuest, our supplier of the service.  So now you have access from home that will be allowed through June 30, 2020.

If you have not taken advantage of the opportunity to access this material from home in the last 9 weeks, you now have another opportunity extended to June 30, 2020.

Access to this service is available to our own cardholders who will sign in with their library card and PIN number.  If you are from another library, please take a look at your library website for information on availability through them.  Such availability appears to be happening for all libraries that take advantage of this opportunity to make the service available to users from home.

You can access Ancestry Library Edition from our library here:

If you are a current personal subscriber to Ancestry.com then this permitted access to us does not matter since your personal subscription provides you access from anywhere.  However, if you are NOT a personal subscriber to Ancestry.com, then this is a wonderful opportunity for you to access this material FROM HOME during the next approximately 5 weeks.  Prior restrictions placed on our library from Ancestry.com only allowed access to the Library edition from within any one of our library buildings while you were present in them.  You could not access the material from home due to restrictions placed on us.

Life has changed for all of us in the short-term.  Gaining access to this material from home during our limited ability to leave our homes is a wonderful opportunity for your own research to continue during the time our library is closed.

Enjoy access to Ancestry Library Edition from home with your Schaumburg Township District Library card through June 30, 2020.

  1. Thank you Tony for keeping us in the loop about Ancestry and the speakers who granted you permission to have their presentations put up on YouTube. Cheers to you for having the technical knowledge, and taking the time to contact these speakers. I have been unable to make many of the meetings and sorely missed gaining the additional knowledge and resources they always provided. I will definitely check out the Newberry presentation because that library is always a great resource for me.

    Thanks again and stay safe.

    • Hi Sue,

Thank you for your comment. I must give a big “thank you” to our speakers that have allowed us to share their presentations online during this pandemic. They had previously given us permission to record their programs and convert the recording to a DVD that was added to our collection. When our library shut down, our users no longer had access to the DVDs to view. What better way than to ask our speakers to allow us to take the next step to digitize the recording and allow it to be added to our YouTube Channel for viewing online.

Also check out some of the individual genealogy tutorial screencasts I created that are also located on our YouTube Channel. It was fun doing them and I hope it will help many researchers to better use many of the databases I covered, especially those from Ancestry Library Edition that is now available to home users through our library (for our cardholders) until June 30, 2020.
