For Those That Attend Our Genealogy Program That Want Their Research Surnames Listed In My New “Surnames” Blog Page On This Blog, I Will Need A Positive “Yes” Provided To Me By You

Hi Everyone!

For those of you that have attended our monthly genealogy programs and have previously provided to me a listing of the surnames you are researching, this post is for your attention.

I am in the process of creating a new “page” on this blog that will be titled “Surnames Being Researched”.  It will appear at the top of the homepage along with the other “pages” that exist there for this blog.   In it will be the surnames you are researching.  It will look similar to the current Excel paper report I create and bring to our programs for you to look at and update.  Your information was included in the listing when you returned a questionnaire that contained the names as well as indicating you were OK in sharing the names.

The “new” page is still not yet visible in this blog at the top of the homepage.  I would term it as being “under construction”.

I am trying to move the “paper” report to an electronic page in this blog.  However, instead of a phone number as your contact point, I will be including an e-mail address from you as the point of contact should anyone see your surname of interest and want to contact you.

In order to get the names into the new “Surnames Being Researched” page I will need you to contact me via the blog’s “Contact” page.

You can get directly to my “Contact” Page at the following link:

https://genealogywithtony.wordpress.com/contact-me/

In the e-mail, I will need you to state the surnames you want me to include, your e-mail address and the geographic areas of your interest e.g. Illinois, DuPage County in Illinois, Poland, etc.

This way I will have positive confirmation you want your surnames and your e-mail address out there visible for any other researcher to possibly make a connection with you who happens to peruse the new “Surnames Being Searched” Page of this blog.

I am not going to automatically transfer your names from the paper report to the electronic report!

So far I have received the OK from at least 6 of you.  The data from those 6 will be the basis of the first report in the new page when I activate it.

It is necessary that you contact me with a positive OK.

I will still continue to update and bring in to our programs the paper report that you may have initially contributed to when you returned the questionnaire to me.  But that one is only visible to those attending our program and is not visible electronically as this new proposed blog surname page will be.

So if you want electronic exposure of your research names, you will need to positively confirm with me that fact and supply me with the e-mail address I would use in the new online report for anyone contacting you.

Thank you so much for your help to launch this new page with your research information and contact information.

Check This Blog During the Winter Months In Case Bad Weather Forces Us To Cancel A Genealogy Program; I Would Post That Cancellation Notice Here

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to remind readers of this blog, especially those of you that often attend our monthly Genealogy Program at the Schaumburg Township District Library (STDL), that I would post a notice here if a Genealogy Program on the 2nd Tuesday evening of the month would have to be cancelled due to bad, wintry weather.

A few cancellations have happened in the recent past and I believe posting the cancellation of that program in this blog proved helpful and beneficial to those who thought of coming out on a bad wintry night.  I believe that our most recent cancellation of our genealogy program was in February 2010 just a few months after I started this blog.

It does not happen often but this blog can easily get the word out that a genealogy program is being cancelled due to inclement weather.

So far the December 2011 program was completed with flying colors weather-speaking.  The 2011-201 winter season has been unbelievably mild so far as of this writing.  Perhaps the January and February programs will occur in routine manner should our winter continue along its mild course.

But I also believe in Karma and realize we have had an exceptionally good November and December for weather and the “weather gods” have their way of “pay back”.  Whatever the “weather gods” do for our program nights, I can get the word out via the blog that we may be a “no go”.

So keep checking back here especially on the 2nd Tuesday evening of the month if you may be planning on attending our genealogy program.  If the weather is dicey and we cancel the program, you will hear it here!

Let’s hope I have not jinxed anything weather-wise for our upcoming January 10, 2012 by talking about problematic weather in this post!

See you on January 10, 2012 at 7:30 PM at the main library building for our next program.

I Added A “Contact Me” Page on the Home Page of the Blog

Hi Everyone!

In the past I realized that people often just wanted to contact me about something unrelated to a particular post.  But there was no real way to reach me directly.  So they often left me something as a “comment” within a post that did not connect with the post.

I generally contacted them “offline” and really never left the “comment” to post because it just seemed like an awkward match.

Now I realize that within WordPress I can allow readers to reach me more directly through a WordPress Contact Form.

I have now created the new “Contact Me” Page at the top of the blog.  If anyone just needs to contact me you can now use the contact form within the page rather than through leaving a “comment” on a post.

You will be required to provide a Name, E-Mail Address, and your question or comment in the Comments part of the form.  I will then receive your query to me after you submit it by delivery from WordPress to my own WordPress e-mail ID.  I can then respond directly back to you via the e-mail you will have supplied.

I am glad I discovered this method from within WordPress.

You should be able to easily see this new Page at the top of the Home Page of this blog.

So if you were ever wanting to contact me but just did not think that leaving a Comment was the right way, then just take advantage of this more direct route to reach me.

“2011 Programs” Added As A New Page on the Blog at the Top of the Home Page

Hi Everyone!

I just want to let all of you know that I have created a new “page” on the blog that is at the top of the first page you see when you visit the blog.

The title of the page is “2011 Programs”.  You will find a list of the schedule of our upcoming genealogy programs for 2011 at our Central Library.  These programs always occur on the 2nd Tuesday evening of each month starting at 7:30 PM.  Doors to the room open by 7:00 PM.

Take a look at the variety of topics and speakers we have scheduled for 2011 to see which ones are of special interest to you.  Also note the quarterly “breakout” groups we have when we do not have a speaker scheduled.  Mark your calendars for 2011 for these programs.

We look forward to seeing you throughout 2011!

“Recent Posts” Summary Added to Right Sidebar of This Blog

Hi Everyone!

You may notice something a little different on our blog on the right “sidebar”.

I added a “widget” to the blog that provides a small summary list of the 10 most recent posts to the blog.

This allows the reader to see an overview of these recent posts and go to one directly of interest rather than scrolling down through all of the recent posts.

I thought I would give it a try for the appearance of the blog as well as to give readers a quick look at what has been recently posted.

I hope you enjoy this “snapshot” view of recent posts.

New “Genealogy Program Flyer” Page Added To the Top of Our Blog

Hi Everyone!

I just want to let you know that there is a new “page” on our blog.  At the top of the blog you will now see a “page” that is titled Genealogy Program Flyer

Our Graphics Department put together a very nice 1 page “flyer” that provides information on our monthly genealogy program.  The flyer is a JPEG file.

This flyer will be posted by our reception desk of the main library on the first floor.  Handouts of the flyer are available at the reception desk.  The image of the flyer will also be show “electronically” on various TV monitors scattered throughout our library.  Other library information is also shown on these monitors.  So now, genealogy has been added as an additional piece of information that we include in this series of information messages we broadcast on our TV monitors in our building.

Take a look at the flyer.  I think it is very well put together and is a very nice visual flyer highlighting general information of our monthly genealogy program.  Contact information to myself as well as our blog is included in the flyer.

Please share this piece of information with whomever you think would benefit from knowing of our monthly genealogy program.

Enjoy the flyer!

Hi Everyone!

I just added a new PAGE to the blog titled PREVIOUS PROGRAMS 2002 – 2009 to the blog.

Just look for it at the top of the blog.

Maybe you remember a program or speaker we had at one time.  Use this page to refresh your memory.  The programs are presented in order from 2009 back to 2002.  The programs within each year are in January through December month order.

Enjoy your travel through Memory Lane as it pertains to our past library genealogy programs!
